Mary Grace Larson Rauwolf, age 68, of Bellevue, died at Evergreen Hospice on January 9, 2012 after a seven month battle with lymphoma. She fought valiantly until the end and passed away with family holding her hands. Mary will be remembered as a loving wife, a caring sister, a fearless mother, a supportive and fun grandmother and a compassionate co-worker. Mary was born Feb 3, 1943 in Laconia, NH to the late Annette and Clarence Larson. She was a 1961 graduate of Kent Meridian High School and attended Western WA University in Bellingham. Mary and Dean Rowe were married in 1963 and had 2 daughters. They lived in Hayward, WI where she began her life long career in health care. Mary moved to Ketchikan, AK in 1990 after marrying Paul Rauwolf and later returned to the Seattle area with Paul in 1995. She continued working in health care and happily landed at Evergreen Medical Center in Kirkland, WA (1998-present). Mary flourished resolving complicated issues as Director of Risk Management at Evergreen. She was calm in the face of difficulty and a great listener. Mary treasured friend- ships with many of her co-workers. Mary embraced family and friends. Her door was always open, the guest room often full, and her cookie jar in regular need of replenishment. Baking was a lifelong passion of Mary's which began long before she was named WA state champion cherry pie baker in 1961. We will forever remember the mouth-watering taste of her famous and often-requested gourmet pies. Her beautifully manicured gardens and landscaping also give testament to Mary's patience and caring. She enjoyed trips to the ocean, watching birds in her garden, and visiting with neighbors. Perhaps her greatest delight was spending time with her grandchildren. A constant fan at games and performances, she admired their accomplishments with pride. They will sorely miss her. Mary is survived by her husband Paul Rauwolf; daughters Sarah Rowe Moore (Bill Moore) and Kristin Rowe; brothers Richard "Swede" (Barbara) Larson and Alvin Larson; 6 stepchildren; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mary would have wanted to send a special thank you to the staff at Cascade Cancer Center, Evergreen Hospital 6th floor Silver, and Evergreen Hospice. She was treated with such warmth and compassion and her family is forever grateful for the excellent care Mary received. Mary's colleagues at Evergreen will have a Memorial Gathering on February 10th at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center. A family service will be held in March.
