Dearest husband and dad, colleague and friend, counselor and teacher, our cherished Gregory Thomas Francis McBride, passed peacefully in the loving presence of his family and friends on March 27, 2015 in Seattle, WA. He was born June 16, 1954 to Tom and Naomi McBride and raised in Malibu, CA. With a life well lived, his Father beckoned him Home to outstretched arms so loving and proud.
Every breath he drew, every beat of his heart, every feeling and thought inspired, each step he walked in the direction it took -- was of God. All of it. When asked, "But how can you be so certain of that?" his eyes would smile, "Because I decided it so. At the risk of being wrong, I decided long ago that anything of me would instead be of God."
Graduating at the top of his class, Greg was called to navigate the aircraft carrier ENTERPRISE, just in time for the US withdrawal out of Vietnam. The ENTERPRISE was the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier and the first to modernize ship navigation by making the transition from sextant to Global Positioning System. Often known by his Navy nickname, “Mac,” Greg was honored to be the recipient of the last flag flown by ENTERPRISE.
The entirety of Greg's life to that point had prepared him so perfectly for what God’s Will would next call him to do. For 38 years, we would all come to know Greg as a singular man and Counselor. His private practice was an established fixture of the community of Bellevue, WA. Greg’s heart and spirit were so woven into the fabric of all that he lived and did.
We hold in our prayers the family who so loved him as he did them: his wife: Katherine Mary McBride, his son: Blake Edward McBride; Step-children: Joshua Daniel Cunningham, Jesslyn Elizabeth Cunningham; as well as granddaughter Georgia Cunningham.
