Gerald A. Halvorson came into this world on September 4th, 1929. Born in the small town of Rolla, North Dakota to Alfred and Bertha Halvorson, he had two older brothers - Elton and Monroe. Gerald grew up in this small farm town and had many great friends and experiences, including meeting his future wife - Helen Juntunen. Helen wanted to get married right after high school, but Gerald joined the US Army in 1947 for two years so he could then go to college. After his honorable discharge, he attended the University of North Dakota from 1948 to 1952 where he graduated with a B.S. in mathematics, and was married to Helen on June 19th, 1953.
After the wedding, Helen and Gerald immediately moved to Seattle, Washington to start a life together, and they had two children- Roger, born in 1958, and Alan, born in 1959. Gerald began working at Boeing in the early 1960s, and the family moved to Bellevue in fall of 1964. At that time they joined Holy Cross Lutheran Church and have been living in the same house and actively attending the same church for the last 50 years.
Gerald retired from Boeing in June of 1992, and celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with Helen in 2003. He had many favorite activities including jogging, hiking, skiing, golfing, and traveling. Gerald and Helen have made annual trips back to their home town of Rolla, ND almost every year they have been away and both have a strong love for all of their family and friends there. They have also had wonderful trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Finland, Norway, England, as well as hiking the Grand Canyon, exploring New England, and attending yearly reunions with friends in Palm Springs, California and Phoenix, Arizona.
Gerald passed peacefully on March 10th, 2014. He is survived by his wife Helen; his sons and their families; Roger, his wife Nicole, and their daughter Chloe, and Alan, his wife Linda, and their children Caitlin and Christian.
