The youngest of 14 children, Bonnie excelled in school, graduating high school at 15 and earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Texas Southern University by age 19. She married the love of her life, Ernest Scott, Jr., on February 7, 1952 and they enjoyed 51 years together until his death in 2003. Ernest’s career took them from Houston, to Washington DC, San Francisco, and eventually to Kirkland where they resided until their deaths.
She is survived by her son Deino Allan Scott and his wife Lori of Kirkland; son Terrance Scott of Kirkland and his former wife Pamela and their daughter Dominique Jean-Marie Scott; sister Mardrie Turner of Sacramento, CA; sister Marie Blackmon of Houston, TX, as well as numerous other relatives.
Bonnie found the greatest pleasure gathering with family and friends for a home-cooked meal, the holidays or simply good conversation. She was an outstanding cook and no one ever left her house hungry. She will be remembered for her compassion, willingness to listen and her encouragement to those in need. She was also a tireless educator and advocate of children, dedicating her professional life to ensuring children received a fair start and the educational foundation to succeed at the next level. She taught for 38 years, including more than 25 at Medina Elementary in Bellevue, WA. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and a lifelong love of football. In recent years some of her greatest pleasure came from time spent with her granddaughter Dominique, and chatting with her sisters and nieces. She will be missed by her family and friends.
