Archie V. Henninger, age 96, of Bellevue, Washington passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 due to a long life, well-lived. Archie was born August 24, 1925 in Summit Hill, Carbon County, Pennsylvania to Frank J. Henninger, Sr. and Pearl Sadie Henninger (née Kistler).
Archie proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1964, when he retired as a First Sergeant. His last assignment was with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Aircraft, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton, California. Upon retirement, Archie moved to Bellevue, Washington with his first wife Maggie and their two children. He worked for Todd Shipyards and then the Boeing Company until the Boeing Bust. He and Maggie owned and operated The Little Store on West Lake Sammamish Parkway in the 1970's and early 80's. He appreciated the many friendships with customers and neighbors gained from that era. When Archie retired for good, he and Maggie hit the road in their motorhome for trips across the United States and Canada, visiting family and friends from the Marine Corps. They often travelled with Edgar and Allie. Edgar was Archie's brother and Edgar was married to Maggie's sister Allie. Maggie died in 1992 during one of their trips. Years later, Archie caught up with Ruthie, a friend from many years ago at Sky Meadows in Cle Elum and they were married. Ruthie and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren became family to Archie. For years, Archie and Ruthie took great pleasure traveling the U.S. in their motorhome.
Archie is predeceased by his wife Ruth M. Henninger (née Cole) of Eureka, Montana (d. 2021) and his wife Maggie L. Henninger (née Campbell) of Memphis, Tennessee (d. 1992). He was grateful for the family he had with Ruth's children: LeAnn Gamache, Mona Drew and her husband Jim, Wade Anderson and his wife Cherri, Vicky Anderson (d. 2013), and enjoyed grandchildren Lauren, Will, Jenny, and Melinda, and great-grandchildren Abby, Ivy, Travis, and Alex. Archie was a proud father to and survived by his daughter Judy Faast, son-in-law Patrick Faast, and son Wayne Henninger. Archie came from a large family. Four of Archie's brothers also served in the Marine Corps. He is predeceased by brothers Charles (USMC, MIA), Norton (USMC), Frances, Morsby, Edgar (USMC), and Arthur, and predeceased by sisters Norma, Elmira, and Yvonne. He is survived by his brother Frank J. Henninger, Jr. (USMC, Ret.) of Pennsylvania and sister Olga Buswell of Oregon.
A military funeral honors service will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday March 15, 2022 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
