James was a loving husband and father who worked at the Teamsters Local 729 as a truck driver/construction worker. James was a WWII Army Veteran. He was an active member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Belleville, IL

He is preceded in death by his parents: Francis William and Sarah Corrine, nee Mehegan, McElligott; grandparents, John and Katherine, nee Walsh, Mehegan and James and Lydia, nee Quick, McElligott; sister, Lucille Combs; nephews, James Combs and Scott McElligott; granddaughter Sherry McElligott; and grandsons Nathan Greenlee and Charles Scott Greenlee

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Lee, nee Self, McElligott; children, Carol (Ed) L’Hote, Gary (Joanne)McElligott, Lois Larch, Michael (Colleen) McElligott; Beth (Dave) Zahn, Glen McElligott, Neil (Sandie)McElligott; brother Francis William (Nancy)McElligott Jr., many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; including Terry Crawford and Tracy McElligott; grandchildren, Ed(Gail)L’Hote, Amy (Darren) Fults, Shelly McElligott, Laura McElligott, Joshua (Tonia) McElligott, Rebecca (friend Nathan) Larch, Meghan (Toby) Trapp, Nicholas (friend Victoria)Zahn, Matthew Zahn, Chad McElligott, Ryan (friend Julie)McElligott, Sean (Renee)McElligott, Tamara (friend Patrick)McElligott, Joseph (Stephanie) McElligott, Kyle McElligott, Adam McElligott, Andrew McElligott, Heather and Jodee Reed and many great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial: will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 1706 West Main Street, Belleville, Illinois 62226 with Monsignor Bill McGhee officiating

Interment will be held in the Mt Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL
