She is preceded in death by her parents, and one son, John Mayr.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Bill Mayr. Carolyn and her husband would have been married 65 years next month. She and her husband were more than husband and wife, they were also Best Buddies.
She is further survived by children; Anthony (Tony) Mayr of Belleville, Illinois, James (Jim) Mayr of Belleville, Illinois, Leslie (Tom) Hankley of Belleville, Illinois, and David (Katherine) Mayr of Smithton, Illinois. Grandchildren; Scott (Julie) Hankley, Daniel (Sheri) Hankley, Jonathan (Lauren) Hankley, Riley (Kristen Campbell) Mayr and Ian Mayr, along with great-grandchildren; Braden Hankley, Parker Hankley, Flint Hankley, Rubi Hankley, Emma Hankley, Charlie Hankley and Abigail Hankley.
Carolyn was born and grew up in Harrisburg, Illinois. She acquired the love of animals from her father, who raised livestock as a hobby and she kept all sorts of small animals and had her own pony. After attending Harrisburg High School, she attended and graduated from SIU Carbondale with a degree in Art Education. After graduation she traveled to Bad Kruesnach, Germany to marry William (Bill) Mayr, a classmate at SIU who was in the Army and stationed there. They were able to tour and see a lot of Europe.
Carolyn had many hobbies and interests including gardening, painting watercolors, antiquing where she enjoyed going to auctions and antique shops with friends, and loved decorating her home. She also did a lot of volunteering at the schools for her children.
After her children were raised she took a job as a Floral Designer at several local florists.
After she and her husband retired, they enjoyed traveling, she especially love New England or any place that had a long sandy beach. They had many other activates together including Yoga and Tai Chi classes and more antiquing, and meeting with friends and family.
Memorial Gathering will be Thursday, October13th, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois.
Memorial Service will be Friday, October 14th, 2022 at 10:00 am at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois.
Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Belleville, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
