Barbara attended St. Peter & Paul Grade School and Collinsville High School. She then furthered her education at DePaul School of Nursing and Lindenwood University, for a bachelor's degree in nursing administration, and McKendree University, for a master's degree in nursing administration. Barbara began her health care career of 47 years at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, Illinois, where she held positions of increasing responsibility within the nursing department, as well as founding the infection control department. She loved every aspect of nursing, but the operating room was her favorite. Along with nursing, Barbara loved to travel, embroider, and read.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and William Zid, and an infant sister.
She is survived by her sister, JoAnn, and many cousins, and friends.
Memorials may be made to either Cardinal Glennon or Children’s Hospital in St. Louis or for masses at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Belleville, Illinois.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 4:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home.
Funeral: Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 8, 2023 with the Very Reverend Kenneth York presiding. Interment to follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory.
