Ronald Steven Shapiro

Ronald S. Shapiro (79) was born in Houston, TX to parents Janette and Herbert Shapiro. He married Doris Dolson on February 11, 1966, and had one child, Harry Shapiro.

Ronald, warmly known as “Ronnie” truly lived life to the fullest. He was a man who wore many hats. He served on the City Council in Webster, Texas, was a lifetime member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, served on both the Harris County and Galveston County Sheriff’s Department Reserves, had a successful career in the automobile industry and was a devoted husband and family man.

Being a true salesman at heart, Ronnie began his career in the car business at Norman Frede Chevrolet in the early 1970’s. Over those 50+ years he made his mark in the industry and built a clientele that followed him from dealership to dealership. It’s likely if you’ve bought a car in the last 50 years, you probably bought it from him.

Ronnie proudly served in the Reserves for both the Harris and Galveston County Sherriff’s Departments. He started his career in 1963 with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), working in various capacities. His biggest love was serving in the Marine Division, where he rose in the ranks to Major. In 2009, Ronnie retired from HCSO and joined Galveston County. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement recently confirmed that Ronnie Shapiro, age 79, was the longest serving reserve deputy in the state.

Ronnie was a lover of life and a devoted husband, father, and family man. He married the love of his life and his true best friend. He grinned when he told the story of how he whisked Doris away from that college in San Marcos and made her his bride 56 years ago. He enjoyed taking his boys boating and fishing and never missed a chance to watch his grandsons play football and baseball. He loved his brother, and truly enjoyed the time they spent together, especially in the recent months.

Ronnie’s outgoing nature didn’t stop with his grand kids, as he looked forward to Friday dinners and couldn’t pass up a friendly game of dominos with his wife and friends. He cherished his time with his family and never missed a get-together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jenette and Herbert Shapiro. He is survived by his wife, Doris Shapiro; son, Harry Shapiro and his wife Shannon; two grandsons, Parker and Ryder Shapiro; brother and sister in-law, Herb and Suzy Shapiro; 19 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews, 6 great great nieces and nephews, along with numerous cousins and extended family and friends.

Ronnie was loved by so many… our football and baseball stands will be a little less rowdy without him. A great man on earth and a boundless angel in heaven.
