Rita Kaplan left us on Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was 79 years old. She was born in Houston, Texas on July 1, 1943 to Esther and Harry Kaplan. Both her parents and her brother, Chester, preceded her in death. She is survived by her cousins Barbara Riesenberg, Bruce Loeser, Howard Loeser, Dennis Grevsky; and her close friends, Roberta Harris, Carroll Montalva and Stacy Lord.
Rita grew up in Houston and attended San Jacinto High School. She was a founding member of Joe Reichman BBG, a youth group that she actively participated in throughout high school. After high school, she attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, where she was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. She returned to Houston to work at the Vinson and Elkins Law Firm. She left V&E to pursue a career in Men’s Fashions at Neiman Marcus. It was there that her wonderful creativity and love of people truly blossomed! Rita had great wit and sense of humor that served her well in her position at Neiman’s. She was able to personalize the style and manner of each of her customers to help them in selections. She enjoyed meeting new people and the challenges of retail!
Rita had a great love of art, hearts, music, ballet, flowers, gardening, and Lulu, her beloved and devoted pet Boxer. She enjoyed bringing lemon bars to the family holiday gatherings with her many cousins over the years. After Rita retired, she joined the Augusta YMCA and became an avid member of the activities as well as participating in the bus trips that the group took to different locations in the city of Houston and the state of Texas that she loved.
Graveside Service will be held at 10am, Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Beth Yeshurun-Post Oak Cemetery.
