Paul Magaziner

In 1977, he met the love of his life, Susan. Although their families had been connected for many years – in fact, their siblings had carpooled to religious school as children – Paul and Susan were five years apart and didn’t know one another. They were set up on a blind date in their 20s and were immediately smitten with each other.

Paul and Susan married on June 8, 1980. Their daughter, Jordan, was born in 1988 and son, Ryan, was born in 1991.

As a young adult, Paul joined his family’s printing business, most recently known as VCI Group and Color Reflections, ultimately taking over the business and expanding it across the country. An avid businessman, Paul was self-motivated and exceptionally hardworking. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for commercial real estate. In 2015, Paul semi-retired; he sold VCI Group in Houston but continued to work with the Florida and Las Vegas Color Reflections operations.

Some of Paul’s favorite pastimes included golfing, fishing, and traveling – particularly golf trips or fishing trips. Since childhood, he was a saltwater fisherman and enjoyed learning to fly fish with friends later in life. He frequently traveled to Las Vegas and Florida with Susan. Over the years, some special travel highlights included exploring Europe; embarking on cruises, particularly in Alaska; visiting Israel; and playing golf in Scotland and Ireland. He cherished memories made on a 2019 golf trip to Scotland with his son, son-in-law, and longtime best friend. In 2020, Paul and Susan celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with their children – and lots of laughs and touching moments – in a vow-renewal ceremony officiated by Elvis in a Las Vegas wedding chapel.

Paul was quite the character. He could always be found with a cigar nearby. Paul was known for his (sometimes inappropriate) sense of humor and was a notorious prankster, especially as a young adult. He loved good food and enjoyed sharing favorite dishes with loved ones. He was passionate about politics and was not shy about sharing his opinions. Above all, Paul was admired for his kind, compassionate, and extraordinarily generous heart. He always put his family and friends first, consistently going above and beyond to take care of his loved ones.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Carl, and baby sister Jeri Ann Magaziner. He is survived by his wife, Susan, daughter Jordan, son-in-law Matthew Steinfeld, and granddaughter Sloane Steinfeld; son Ryan and daughter-in-law Rachel Magaziner; sister Renee and brother-in-law Itzy Kariv; sister Mindy and brother-in-law Greg Bloom; mother-in-law Joan Granoff; sister- and brother-in-law Donna and Steve Palmer and Mark and Elaine Granoff; and the many cousins, nieces and nephews, and loyal friends who love him dearly. To say that he will be missed is a tremendous understatement.

The Magaziner family is grateful to Dr. Benjamin Musher and his team, who treated Paul and the entire family with such compassion and care as well as the many incredible, kind caregivers, including Betty, Earlene, and Ms. McCoy, in addition to the special nurses at Houston Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Paul’s memory to Houston Hospice or Seven Acres Jewish Care Senior Services.

A funeral service for Paul will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Emanu El Memorial Park in The Kagan-Rudy Chapel, 8341 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77074.
