Jim graduated from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in 1962 and a Master of Science in 1965. Upon graduating from Texas Christion University, Jim moved to Houston. He continued his education in Houston, started his career and began making many friends. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Ph. D.
Jim was a member of several professional societies. These included archeological, anthropological, academy of sciences and association of environmental professionals. He belonged to the Society of Wetlands Management, Audubon Naturalist Society and Natural Sciences Society.
Jim was employed in several environmental positions, culminating at ENSR Consulting and Engineering as a Senior Project Manager of the Department of Toxicology and Risk Management. He retired in 2003.
Perhaps Jim is best known for his numerous friends in Houston. Jim was special and very loving. His generosity and kindness were recognized by all who knew him. Jim presided over the “Thursday Night Dinner Group” for thirty years. Jim attended Unity Church of Houston for over forty years.
Jim Baker passed away on December 12, 2022. Preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Brockenbush Baker, his father Haskell L. Baker, and his sister Blanche Baker Fussell. Jim is also preceded in death by his life partner, Ken Haught.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Delmar “Del” Fussell of Fort Worth, Texas. Also, he is survived by his friend and caregiver Michael Carver. Jim’s friends are grateful to Mike for his caring attention and love to Jim during his final days.
