Irene Mancha Sanchez, age 93 passed away peacefully Wednesday September 2, 2020 in her home in Houston surrounded by her family. Irene was born in Houston, Texas on December 17, 1926 on the East Side of Houston. She grew up in the Magnolia area of Houston and graduated from Milby High School in 1944. Upon graduation from Milby, Irene went to work at Ellington Field in Houston, Texas, to help support the war effort. After the war ended, Irene went to Omaha, Nebraska in 1946 to attend the Radio, Electronics, and Television Institute School.
On September 16, 1948, Irene married her husband Alfonso Sanchez. Together they had four children, Wayne, Alfonso, Jr., David, and Patricia. Irene worked in the Insurance business and started with Ray Couch & Elder until they merged with Marsh & McLennan. After the death of her husband, Alfonso Sanchez, Irene went on to work for Belmont Constructors, INC. as an Insurance Administrator and worked for them for several years. As her grandchildren started to arrive she decided to stay home and devote her time with them. She has eight grandchildren who she absolutely adored! She volunteered at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston and her Parish, St. Vincent DePaul. She loved attending the senior luncheons at West University Place, dance classes and exercise classes they offered for seniors.
She loved to travel and went to many wonderful destinations such as New Zealand, Jakarta, Germany, London, Spain, Indonesia, Belize, France, Canada, and all over the United States. She loved life, her children, grandchildren and her many beautiful friends she made along her awesome journey through life.
