Monday was the one-year anniversary of the passing of my dear brother Earl Spielman.  The feelings are still very raw, and our whole family remains much affected by this profound loss.

We thank you for your many kind words, thoughts and donations in his honor.  He touched all of us in so many ways.

May his memory be for a blessing.

Sincere condolences on the loss of my great student.

My heart hurts.  Almost a year later and I just found out that my dear friend passed away. We met back in the 90's at Wing & Things (yes we bonded over wings) He was such a great person with a heart of gold; and of course he became my attorney. 
I found out about his passing because I was messaging him and didn't receive a response and that told me something was wrong.  I went to Goggle and found this. Sending lots of Love, Hugs and Prayers to Mr. Spielman's (Earl's) family. He loved y'all so much. 
Thank you for all the laughs Mr. Spielman, you are going to be missed.

Earl and his family have been in my life since forever.  Our parents were close friends with weekly pinochle games for many years.  Morleen, Donnie and I have a deep connection, and it was at their lovely home in Tucson where I helped celebrate Earl’s 60th birthday weekend, their home filled with friends and love for this sweet, big hearted man.  Some years earlier, another visit with Earl this time when he drove my sister, who was visiting a mutual friend in Houston, to join me in San Antonio.  He was a funny, kind and generous friend and will be greatly missed ❤️

I knew Earl years ago from my cousin, Linda Shomstein, who was good friends with Earl.  I have the fondest memories of him, and he was very funny and personable. All of my sympathies to his family and friends- may his memory be for a blessing .

We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love in honor of my dear brother Earl the Pearl.  The family has enjoyed reading some of the memories you were kind enough to share.  Many brought a smile or a tear.

It was wonderful to hear from some of Earl's friends from Buffalo.  And, of course, a huge thank you to all of his friends in Houston.

I've been asked for suggestions as to  where to make a donation to honor Earl's memory.  We are suggesting Congregation Brith Shalom in Houston or the National Audubon Society. 

I, personally, am so grateful to Rabbi Teller, Steve Rubin, and the Congregation Brith Shalom members for their support during this impossible time.

I’m really sorry to hear about Earl’s passing. I’ve known Earl since my days in AZA & then living in Houston until 1993. My condolences to his family, my his memory be a blessing

I was saddened by the news from one of our law school colleagues that we had lost a classmate, Earl Spielman.   I liked Earl so much, he was a great guy.  He always had a smile on his face and was always glad to see you.  We graduated from STCL in Houston in the late 80’s and spent the next 30 years at the Harris County Criminal courthouse running into each other.  When I was a young prosecutor, Earl was ever present in the courts representing clients.  Known as “Earl the Pearl” he was affable and fun to visit with and we always  toasted L’chaim at celebrations.  The last time I saw Earl was when one of my friends in the DA’s office suggested we eat Italian for lunch at this restaurant close to our office when it was on Jefferson street.  We drove to a pizza  restaurant and during lunch Earl was greeting his patrons.  I had no idea he had become the proprietor of a restaurant.  As so many entrepreneurial attorneys at the courthouse he too had become an owner of a thriving restaurant.  We had an enjoyable visit and it was good to see him.  I would have attended his service but I am recovering from a broken leg.  I am sorry to have lost a good friend.  To those of us fortunate enough to have known “Earl the Pearl” we knew he was a jewel.  God bless Earl.  You and your family are in my prayers.  With sincere condolences,  Linda Mazzagatti

I'm sorry to hear this news.  Earl and I probably reconnected on Facebook I think during covid as we'd attend Shir Shalom's streamed service.  I was always amazed how he shared his holiday meals on line wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom or a happy holiday.  I remember Earl, Morleen, and their parents.  Our parents/families were friends and I can vividly remember going to their house.  I was sorry to read and hear about his health issues in recent years. 

My thoughts are with Morleen,  the family, and Earl's friends.   Hold on to the wonderful memories.  May those memories turn this bitter time to bittersweet and then into sweet memories.  May his memories be for a blessing.

I heard about “Earl the Pearl” long before I had the pleasure of meeting Earl in person.  And while we didn’t know each other well—his visits to Tucson were too infrequent and often too short for Morleen to share him!—there is something that he and I did share: our devotion and deep love of his sister and her family.  Amy and I know his passing will leave an emptiness in the lives of Morleen, Don, Lisa, Ric and the girls.  We wish them all strength through their grief.

It was wonderful to get to know Earl over the years while he visited my dear friend Morleen in New York, at the beach, in Florida when we would coordinate visits to our respective parents, and in Arizona. He was bright and funny and always overjoyed to be with Morleen and Don, Lisa, Rick, Mia and Ruby. My sympathies to you all for this great loss.

RIP Earl the Pearl. He referred several cases to me over the years. Jim Skelton often met with his Wednesday session students at Gotham Pizza after Class. A fun guy & true friend. Didn't see him much during the Pandemic. I will miss him. I hate knowing that his laughter & warmth has left us.

I met Earl about 20 years ago when I walked in to Gotham Pizza.  Having grown up in the suburbs of Buffalo, I knew as soon as I saw all the Bills and Sabres memorabilia, that I was in familiar territory.   He was funny, kind, quirky and bright.  He surely made his mark in Houston.  To have known Earl is to have known that he truly was one of a kind; my condolences to all of his friends and family.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I went to law school with Earl and more recently reconnected with him. A few years ago he met my son by coincidence. He as very kind to my son and about him. On Facebook, and via telephone I have been in contact. He was a proud Jew and Zionist. He took no guff about those subjects. At the same time he was often very empathetic at my sojourn to Lubbock and for living in a town so far from Houston and Buffalo, where I Earl and I graduated from SUNY although we didn’t know each other then. He absolutely relished the duties of  a Best Man. For that matter HE was the best!

Ear was my best man at my wedding in 1978. Here we are enjoying my last few minutes as a single man before the ceremony!

I have known Earl since 1971, one of my longest on-going friendships . As my closest friend while he was in Buffalo, it only made sense that he was my  Best Man at my wedding in 1978. I have posted a series of pictures of that day showing Earl in all of his youthful glory.

We went through a lot together - sharing a long list of hobbies and interests; general talks about life and talk about the world around us. Earl was a big Buffalo Sabres fan and I will miss our conversations about the team, particularly now as they are becoming good. This would have brought him so much joy! 

During his annual visits to Buffalo during the summer, we often took full day trips which varied from quirky (Dunkirk - great stories from our teenage years) to international, as we often went up to Canada and Toronto to visit family or to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Earl was a self made man and did incredibly well in Houston. All those who knew him were very impressed and very proud of his many achievements. He was the model son and looked after his mother in her later years and took good care of her! His devotion was exemplary. He will be sorely missed!

Our deepest sympathies to Don, Morleen, Lisa and family.... what we most remember about Earl was how much he loved his family and his great sense of humor which he freely shared. He lived his life fully and on his own terms, making tons of friends and contributing to the world however he could. He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace knowing he was well loved.

One of the most generous, gentle, and good spirited people I  have ever had the pleasure to call my friend. He touched many and all who knew him were better for it.

Earl leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments and cherished memories. I fondly remember dinners, family gatherings, and shared celebrations, all of which were made richer by Earl's presence. I will always remember Earl for his kindness and generosity. I enjoyed going to his restaurant several times for lawyer lunches, the conversation was always great, and the food was amazing! 

I kept thinking I needed to visit his restaurant to catch up with him and unfortunately, I did make it before he passed. He will be missed.

Earl Spielman was my best friend. We spoke on the phone almost every day. We would tell each other funny stories and sing silly lyrics  while laughing for hours on end. Earl had a big personality and charisma to back it up. When he walked in a room it was lights, camera, action, the life of the party was here to make you laugh. Earl had a heart of gold and  will be missed by many. Love you Earl.

My parents were very good friends with Earl’s parents. I’ve known him since I was a child. Interestingly enough, we both moved to Texas, Earl to Houston and me to Houston and then Austin. He was a really nice person. He loved birds and commissioned my artist daughter to create a bird painting for him.   I recently spoke with him over the phone and discussed my husband and I going to Houston to visit him. 

He suffered so much the past few years. It’s so sad. May he rest in peace.

I am so sad to hear this news.   I grew up next door to Earl.  We reconnected a number of years ago and meet at Ted's Hot Dogs in Buffalo a couple of times over the years.
Two years ago I took a group from my church to Houston to work with homeless ministries.  Earl had us over to his restaurant for pizza.   Awesome food.    In addition to great food and fun stories, we saw how Earl took carenof folks in his neighborhood.   What a blessing.
Earl was a man of deep faith and I enjoyed talking about God with him.
A good man and a good friend.  I miss you and look forward to meeting up with you.
