David Michael Janicek was born November 30, 1952 to James C. Keen Jr. and Betty Osborne Keen at St. Joseph’s hospital in Houston, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 17, 2010.
David was a loving and devoted father, son, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Raised in Bellaire, Texas, David attended Horn Elementary, Jane Long Middle School and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1971. He was drafted in to the US Army in August of 1972. David worked at the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital at night while attending the University of Houston where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1977.
David married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Castleberry, in 1972 at Faith Lutheran Church. Together for 19 years, they raised their two children Michael Todd Janicek and Erin Melissa Janicek.
David’s education and experience led to a career in the pharmaceutical industry located primarily in the Texas Medical Center. During his 30+ year tenure with Wyeth Laboratories, David met and married his wife, Rachel DeJongh Janicek. Together they raised their son Jacob DeJongh.
David continuously focused on his passions for carpentry and woodworking, rebuilding and remodeling his childhood home that was destroyed in Hurricane Ike where his mother still lives. The home is a beautiful testament of David’s love for his family and a reminder to us all of his supernatural work ethic and creativity, just a few of his many gifts. He enjoyed family ski trips and water sports. He was a world traveler and touched the lives of every person that made his acquaintance. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with the ones he loved. He will be missed terribly by those of us who were so blessed to have him in our lives. He will forever be in our hearts.
David is preceded in death by his father James C. Keen Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel de Jongh Janicek; his children, Michael Todd Janicek and his wife Kristin Toedter Janicek, Erin Janicek and her fiancé Alan McClung and Jacob de Jongh; his granddaughters, Elise and Kaitlyn Janicek; mother, Betty Osborne Keen Janicek; brothers, James C. Keen III and William Randolph Keen; sisters, Alicia Ammons and Heidi Brown; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends and loved ones.
