Just today I learned of Ryan's passing and my heart is so heavy for each of you.

Though it has been many years since our last contact, I was fortunate to have spent quality time with Ryan.
Memories with Ryan include high school dances, joining the Holleran family vacations in Ocean City, visiting Ryan in Copenhagen, sharing our one and only camping "experience" in Assateague (lol), and just hanging out at the Holleran house. 

As you know, Ryan was always a jokester. Our first time hanging out was in 2006. Carrie asked if I wanted to tag along on a day trip to OC with her, Ryan and Mike. I was hesitant at first, but it is one of my favorite memories of all time. Ryan and Mike introduced me to dry humor and I never laughed so much in my life. 

In September 2023 I visited Copenhagen. The reason for my visit was because I fell in love with the city when visiting Ryan in 2012.  As I biked through the streets, I saw the sights Ryan brought me to.  I thought about texting him but decided not to. Now I know he was already at peace.

Our hearts are broken that the world has lost the shining beacon that Ryan was to so many.  We met years ago shortly after I came out and our mutual friends set us up on a "friend date." Over the years we have seen each other as our paths criss crossed the east coast but in the last year Albert and I have been extremely blessed to have Ryan just a few floors down in our Brooklyn apartment.  With busy lives we didn't get together as much as we would have liked, but when we did, it was always a great time. I can still hear his laugh that could fill every corner of a room, no matter how large, and I will cherish every time he shared it with us.  

To Ryan's family, we are so sorry for you loss and our heart breaks for you and for everyone Ryan touched who have to figure out how we go on from here.  He is so loved and so missed by us. 

To Ryan’s family and friends; I’m so very sorry for your loss - my heart is heavy with sadness as I know yours must be.  

Ryan started out as a colleague of mine a few years ago, but then quickly turned into a friend.  He truly made a real difference in my life - I’m so grateful our paths crossed.  He had the best laugh and the brightest smile, and always knew what to say.  Ryan always made others feel truly appreciated and at ease; he went out of his way to let others know they mattered.  Many times he lifted my spirits, and those around him.

As so many others have shared, his huge heart and the way he always cared deeply for others was a bright light in this world.  He will always be in my heart and I will celebrate his life as a beautiful gift always.

Keith,  my condolences on your tragic loss. You and your family are in my heart.

Ryan was someone who made you feel special and seen. We were friends in college and he instantly made you feel comfortable the moment you were in the same room. When I think of Ryan, I think of how he made me and others around him feel. I will never forget his easy laugh and the lightness he brought to people. 

My heart aches deeply for Ryan’s family and know there aren’t any words that could possibly take away the pain they are feeling during this time. 

My prayer to his loved ones is that they find joy when he still finds a way to make them laugh, find comfort when words of encouragement are felt that you know were sent from him, and find peace when you feel his loving presence with you in moments when you need him most. 

I firmly believe those qualities of Ryan that we all so loved will not go away with his passing. He had an innate ability to leave a lasting impact and know he will continue to do so in life beyond form.

To the Holleran Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Ryan was one-of-a-kind. I am so thankful that he welcomed me as a 4th roommate while he, Joe and Pat lived together on 75th & Lex. I’ll never forget taking (way too many) casamigos shots with your family before jingle ball or Ryan’s love for the finer things in life (especially rag and bone jeans and trendy restaurants). He will be so missed by so many. 

Please know that Joe and I will continue to pray for your beautiful family and send you so much love.

Ryan and I met in 2014 and he has been a constant fixture in my life ever since. I cherished the time we spent together and valued his friendship dearly. I loved that he moved just a few blocks from me recently in Ft Greene and we didn’t have to have a subway between us. He was my go-to friend for a bagel in the park, a walk to catch up and gossip, or a fun night out. When I think about the times we spent together, I always remember how silly and happy we were. We were constantly laughing together and he knew how to call me out when I needed it. I loved teasing him for his Maryland accent, FaceTiming each other before meeting up, and “borrowing” (i.e. stealing) his great collection of short sleeve button downs. Ryan and I did a lot of growing up together through our twenties and I enjoyed seeing him become a more confident and secure version of himself over the past few years. 

I’m sad that Ryan isn’t a few blocks or a phone call away anymore. There is an empty place in my heart for my friend and I miss him. I’m sorry that we all won’t be able to see how such a fantastic human would impact the world and our community. My thoughts are with his friends and family who I know meant so much to him. Love you, Ry.

It’s not surprising to read so many messages of people whose lives Ryan has touched and changed for the better. He is one of the best people we’ve ever known—kind, funny, thoughtful, intelligent, hardworking, and so much more. He always gave selflessly and was always there to celebrate others. 

We will look back fondly at memories of our years together, from Terp Runners to the “Beechwood Bros” to visiting each other across the country in later years. We hope that his family and friends can also find some solace in their memories of him.

Ryan,

You were one of Chelsea’s best friends and because of that, I got to spend a lot of time with you during important parts of my childhood. I always couldn’t wait for the weekend because I knew Chelsea would have people over and that you would be there. You would come up stairs and hangout with me and my dad for awhile. He would tell you how I was doing in sports and you were always so genuinely proud and happy for me. Looking back it’s crazy how selfless and nice you were even as a high schooler. My favorite memory with you is when you and Chelsea took me and my friend to Hershey Park for the day and at night there was a Rihanna and Kesha concert. We had a lot of fun and of course you were the life of the party. I haven’t seen you in a few years but you keep up with me on social media and I have all of our conversations from over the years saved. This hurts because no one could say good bye, but I’m confident that we’ll meet again one day wherever that may be. 

To Ryan’s parents and wonderful sister, I’m so sorry. You all are in our thoughts and we hope to be an help to you that we can. I know Chelsea told me how excited ryan was to become an uncle and even though he won’t be here physically, I’m sure he’ll find a way to be the baby’s greatest guardian. We love you and are always here.

       I am wholeheartedly devastated by the loss of Ryan. Although our family’s have been distant for many years, I always feel bonded to those I attended St.Rita’s with. We were such a small class, and even though we were very young, there was a lot we learned and grew during that time. Oh Ryan, not only were you one of the most genuine and kind hearted people I met in college, but you were also by far the best fist pumper, most fun person to spend time with whenever we all needed to defry from our classes/midterms/etc., and you were also one of the few who could crush an entire Ratsies pizza by yourself after a night out at Fe or Turtle. It's hard to fathom just how many miles Ryan and I might have run together and as a part of a group in college but the last week has brought back a flood of memories, from road-tripping in the pouring rain to Lehigh for Paul Short to going 1-2 (Ryan won) at what had to be one of the last charity 5Ks to actually give out prize money. Running allows you to truly get to know a person, and I am so grateful to have had that chance with him.
Nobody worked harder than Ryan and no one was more friendly. 
He will be missed.

Ryan is a brilliant light, a loving and joyous human. We met my freshman year of college when he approached me in math class and knew I was a hammer thrower. We chatted track and people and instantly connected. He made me feel like the most important person in the world. Always so caring, so loving, and exuding joy. He threw me a party for my 21st birthday, just because. He made me a funfetti cake and made sure there was a champagne toast. A total class act. I’m so blessed to have enjoyed years of friendship, even though it’s been some time since we last connected. I’ll never forget visiting NYC to visit a yoga studio. Ryan invited me to crash with him and was thrilled to show me the city, his favorite places to eat and drink. So much energy, so much light, so much love and so much joy. I’ll always be grateful for his spark and brilliance. 

The last time we spoke on the phone he asked me when I was going to make a baby. I told him never.  Less than a year later I was pregnant and I’ve been meaning to call and tell him what a difference a year makes. It sure does. 

I offer all the love and sympathy and comfort in the world to Ryan’s family. It’s tragic beyond words. I read the quote above at my sister-in-law’s funeral last year and it’s brought me some comfort (sometimes). Ryan has left an incredible amount of love, of joy, of life in everyone who’s had the pleasure of knowing him. These are gifts that last much longer than our material form. 

Ryan, I love you. I have since the day we met and I find a huge smile every time I hear your name or think of your adorable goofy smile. I wish you so much peace during this transition. Endless hugs ❤️

I joined Deloitte as an off-cycle hire in February 2014, landing into an analyst class that was already tightly knit with 6 months of time spent forming friendships in place. It was intimidating. Ryan was the first person to truly welcome me into Deloitte - we worked on some projects together but at every step he invited me to events, lunches, happy hours - he went out of his way to make me feel a part of the community.  

Small kindnesses like these abound in every story I’ve heard shared about Ryan. It’s a privilege to know people who truly care about others - and Ryan brought passion to doing even just the small things that could make your day a little bit better. His big heart showed - not just in the way he treated his friends - but also in the purposes he committed himself to. 

I lost touch with Ryan these past few years. Life takes you on different paths and ours sadly didn’t get to cross much. It is a tragedy that he won’t be able to bring that infectious smile into more lives - but a blessing that it made an impact on mine, and so many others’.  

My deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. I miss him too.

Ryan was such an amazing person and Kerry and I are so lucky to have had the opportunity to have him in our lives. I met Ryan during his freshman year where we instantly bonded over our love for running and sarcastic personalities.  From then on we shared so many wonderful memories from running races together to spending New Years with Ryan and the rest of his family. Once Kerry and I started dating they immediately became close friends and we enjoyed his company skiing in Utah, getting together at Kevin and Linda’s wedding, and he was a groomsman at our wedding.

We are truly devastated by his loss, only comforted in part by our warm memories of him and the outpouring of love shown on this page.  Our love and condolences go out to Sharon, Keith, Carrie, and the rest of Ryan’s family.

Though I hadn’t known Ryan very long, from the moment I met him I knew he had to be a part of my life. He was thoughtful, generous, energizing and brought so much joy to everyone around him. Ryan was such a great human being.   I had the privilege to be his college unit director during his Northwestern Mutual internship.   Eary on I nicknamed him "Hollywood" for that great BIG smile he had...  He will be sorely missed.

I only just met Ryan recently this summer 2022. But i instantly was drawn to his playful nature and his warm, open spirit. I could tell his presence was equally infectious for others. Ryan meant a lot to my dear friend Jonathon, and as a friend, it’s so beautiful to see your friends unfold and feel seen in the presence of another.  Ryan inhabited a generosity that was effusive. There are so many ways we grieve and mourn, and in the coming weeks, I will continue to honor Ryan and hold him close by celebrating his joy, his laughter, and the way he made my friend feel loved. 

I overlapped with Ryan at Flatiron for about three years and remember him to be so joyful, funny, vibrant, and compassionate. We didn't that interact much one-on-one, but I knew I could always count on a great conversation at any company parties & gatherings that would have us both laughing. When the company was acquired by Roche, he had his whole row of desks (and the row behind him ... and maybe even the row in front of him) in stitches as he made jokes about now running on Basel time. 

His loss has deep reverberations and is definitely something I feel acutely, despite having not been in close touch for the past couple of years. My sincerest condolences to his family.  

Heartbroken over this profound loss. Ryan was an extraordinary, kind, smart, fun-loving human being and he will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to his wonderful family and many friends.

This photo was take the day I met Ryan. I remember it was a really windy day in the city, and there were lots of giggles that day because our drinks and food kept getting knocked over. My first impression of Ryan was that he was so sweet, and really intelligent. He also kept it real - he gently told me it was about time to upgrade my phone this day. Ya girl upgraded the next day LOL.

I will miss Ryan and cherish all of the laughs and memories we shared together. He was so special and so loved. May he rest in peace 🤍
