Patricia Louise Seebode Downes, 69, died November 22, 2022 in Bel Air, Maryland of Huntington’s disease. Pattie was born in Washington, DC on May 22, 1953, the daughter of William Fred Seebode, Jr. and Marie Beller Seebode. She grew up in Rockville where she attended Richard Montgomery High school, graduating in 1971. She married Jerry Downes in 1978 and graduated from nursing school in 1979.
During her 30 years as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, she received numerous accolades from patients and co-workers always citing her tender care, her competence and her positive attitude. Pattie was always full of good humor and whether it was kayaking in mosquito-infested swamps, driving across the country in a van, working on a commune in Wisconsin, attending the Baltimore HONfest, or cruising down the Rhine, Pattie was always ready for new adventures. Although she suffered for several years from a chronic debilitating disease, she did not complain but kept her good-natured ways, faced the world with gratitude and held fast to her life-long habit of putting others first.
She was predeceased by her son, Billy Downes. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jessica Johnson (Brett), her granddaughter, Lydia Johnson (the light of her life), her sister, Nancy Rubin (Rob), her sister-in-law, Paula Seebode, several cousins, nieces and nephews and friends too many to count.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 12 PM to 3PM on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Liriodendron Mansion, 502 W. Gordon Street, Bel Air, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, www.hdsa.org, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.
