Dorothy graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1956. She went to California to attend nursing school. After about six months or so, she decided maybe nursing school was not her calling (she was not a fan of bedpans or sick people).
Dorothy returned to New Mexico and resided in Albuquerque and worked as a switchboard operator. In 1958 she met the love of her life, Fred Snyder and they were married September 3, 1958. They remained devoted to each other for almost 65 years. Shortly after they were married, they relocated to Fred’s home state of Maryland. She is still waiting for her moonlight cruises on the Chesapeake Bay that Fred promised her! They resided in Perry Hall and Abingdon. They raised 2 children, a son, Brian and daughter, Laura. Neither one of them gave them any grandchildren and at this point, never will (grand dogs instead). She was a devoted wife and mother.
Dorothy was a scout leader for the cub scouts and the brownies and Girl Scouts. She handled many, many cookie sales! Dorothy loved crafts and nature. She had a curious and kind spirit. She was always willing to lend a hand or donate to a cause.
Dorothy loved cooking and collecting recipes. Hardly a week went by without asking for a recipe she saw on a morning show. We will be finding them for decades! Dorothy loved perfume…couldn’t walk by a perfume counter without giving herself a spritz!
After retirement, Dorothy and Fred continued their love of travel. They spent their winter months in Venice, Florida and had a ball. Dorothy enjoyed daily swim aerobics, crafting and getting involved with community skits for the dinner shows. Dorothy had a love of life and adventure. She usually had a smile on her face and was quick to laugh!
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Fred; devoted mother of Brian and Laura; loving daughter of the late Paul and Mary Piatt; dear sister of Pauline Romanik (the late Ted), Bernice Vigil, Raymond Piatt (Theresa), Robert Piatt (Priscilla), and the late Paul Piatt; she is also survived by many, many loving nieces and nephews.
