Janet Kay Showalter 79, of Beech Grove, Indiana, passed away on January 9, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas at the home of her daughter. Janet was born Janet Kay Brown in Connersville, Indiana on October 14, 1934. She was preceded in death by her father John Preston Brown, mother Dorothy Werking Brown, and step mother Maxine Selm Brown. She graduated from Connersville High School in 1952 and earned her Diploma Degree as a registered nurse from Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Janet was married to Bradley Gene Showalter for 32 years and raised three children. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 44 years until her retirement in 1999 from Indiana University Medical Center. Janet was a voracious reader who loved Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes and numerous other mystery writers. She enjoyed a very active life of crafting, researching genealogy, participating in card club, and going to the theater. She was a wonderful grandmother who was always available. Janet loved to have her grandkids over and was willing to play a board game, go to the movie, or just hang out. Her grandkids and others knew they could always count on her and be themselves while at her home. The words that best describe Janet are “unconditional love and acceptance.” Janet is survived by daughter Diana Hart and her husband Russell, son Timothy Showalter and his wife Joan, daughter Holly DiLeo and her husband Roy; brother John Brown and his wife Delma; grandchildren Brian Hart, Brett Hart, Bradley Showalter, Stuart Showalter and his wife Stevie, Mitchell Showalter, Michael DiLeo, Sophia DiLeo, and; a number of other relatives and close friends. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 4-8 PM with a funeral service Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Little and Sons Beech Grove Chapel. Memorials may be given to Beech Grove Library where she was a longtime patron.
