Walter Wilburn Keaton of Hotchkiss, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022. He was the son of the late Virgil Keaton and Hettie Birchfield Keaton. Born August 10, 1925 in Maben, West Virginia, he joined the Army in 1942 and served overseas in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned home in 1945 and he went to work at the Maben Coal Tipple where he worked until he retired. In 1948, he married Mary Martha Acord. He was a member of the Hotchkiss Missionary Baptist Church. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, John Glen Keaton; great-grandson, Justus Hengst; and brothers Jerry Keaton, Clinton Keaton and Tom Keaton. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Terry Keaton and wife Bessie, Basil Keaton and wife Charlotte, Charlie Keaton and wife Sharon, Nelda Childs, Sharon Meadows and husband Ronnie, Eddie Keaton and wife Sharon, and Kimberly Keaton West and husband Bo; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; and his brothers Frank Keaton and wife Shelby and Carl Keaton.
Services will be Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy Chapman. Friends may call from 1pm -2 pm with a service at 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with full military salute. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, has the honor of serving the Keaton family.
