Roy “D” Sonny Allen, 97 of Sophia, WV went to rest peacefully with our Lord, on March 16, 2023 after living a long and prosperous life. He was a faithful and loving husband, beloved daddy, and a dearly beloved pawpaw. He was the epitome of “humble”.
Born August 3, 1925 at Posey Saxon, he was the son of the late Roy Allen and Inez Lucas Allen Griffith. He was the oldest of six children.
Sonny lived in Sophia 95 of his 97 years; was a member of Sophia First Baptist Church for 44 years; worked on both the Virginian and North Fork and Southern Railroads and retired after 43+ years. He loved his Lord, his family, and his garden- he was blessed with a green thumb and could grow ANYTHING!
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Dorlis O Grose Allen; an infant daughter, Regina Jo Allen and infant grandson, Delos Scott Allen; Sisters Vangie Alexander and Sylvia Martin and Brothers Samuel Griffith and Timothy Griffith.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara (James) Graham of Crab Orchard; son, Roy (Cheryl) Allen of Soak Creek; daughter, Connie (Terry) Dillon of Arnett. Grandchildren include Malisa “Honeybee” Schors and husband Matt; Christy “Chrissy” Mitchell and Husband Jimmy; Jonathan “John Boy” Allen and wife Tisha; Jason “Jake” Allen and wife Glenna; Jessica “Little Jess” Tolliver and husband Jim; and Andrew “Andy” Dillon and wife Brooklyn; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; devoted nephew Ronnie Greer and Sonny’s amazing sister, the family’s constant rock, Delphine “Dot” Graham.
Burial will follow at Hot Coal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Allen, Jim Mitchell, Andrew Dillon, Matt Schors, Jim Tolliver, and Don Murphy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bowers Hospice House. A special thanks to Dr. Ralph Simms and his staff for years of healthcare.
Services will be held Saturday March 25th, 11:00 a.m. visitation- 12:00 pm service held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Kinder from Arnett Chapel.
