Daniel Ross “Dan” Ewing, age 68, of Mt. Hope, WV, passed away at home in the early morning hours on Friday, August 3rd, 2018 following a long illness. Born in Beckley, WV on May 10th, 1950, he was the son of the late Jesse Benford (Bud) Ewing and Edith Glenna Redden Ewing. Daniel was of the Christian faith and was a firm believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
As a young man, he worked construction in Fairfax, VA, Armour and Company in Beckley and Peerless Packing Company in Daniels.
In 1975, he began working as a coal miner for Beckley Coal Mining Company in Glen Daniels and worked over a span of 15 years there. He was self-employed for a time then went on to manage “Dan’s Kwik Stop” in Mt. Hope until his passing.
Dan took the love of farming from his dad, (Bud) and raised a big garden every year. He loved music, both Gospel and Country, his trucks and especially his 1979 Dodge Magnum. But above all, he focused on providing for his family and loved them all very much.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie; infant sister, Carol; brother-in-law, Clarence Alton; sister-in-law, Sharon; nephew, Timothy; brother-in-law, Shirley; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William P. “Bill” and Tella C. Campbell.
Surviving are his children, Danielle Renae (Tommy) Hall, Lorie Ann (Doug) Murray, Larry Franklin (Tammy) Smith, and Ricky Lee (Kimberly) Smith; grandchildren, Randall (Courtney), Jessica (Steve), Johnathan, Casey, Emily Ann, Makayla (Robert), Nickolas Ross, and Sarah Grace; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Colton Smith, Dakota and Cooper Laniar, and Matthew Weatherby; siblings, Benny, Maryln, Alton, Anita (Grant) Wyre, and Jeannie (Randy) Humphrey; sister-in-law, Frances; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his former wife, Gloria Ewing.
Friends are welcome from 12:00-1:00 pm, Saturday, August 11th, 2018 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. The family will have a private visitation prior to. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Reverend Keith Manning officiating. Daniel will be laid to rest in the Chapel of Grace Mausoleum at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
