Thomas Cabaña Doherty was born October 13, 1936 in Malabang, Lanao del Sur, Philippines to Frederick V. Doherty, Sr. and Valeriana Cabaña. He graduated from Notre Dame Boys Department High School in Cotobato City and attended Araneta University. He married Cecilia Altea on July 24, 1960.
Tom worked with his siblings managing the family-owned coconut plantation before immigrating to the US in 1981, with his family following in 1983 and settling in Beaverton. Mr. Doherty graduated from PCC June 14, 1986, earning his degree in Automotive Mechanics. He worked as a psychiatric aide with the State of Oregon retiring after seventeen years of service. In retirement he and Cecilia traveled the world with friends, spending each winter at their vacation home in the Philippines. His passions were his family, tennis, and traveling.
Mr. Doherty was preceded in death by his parents (who died in the Philippines during World War II), and eldest son Richard.
He will be remembered by his wife of 54 years, Cecilia; sons Michael and wife Deann, Patrick and wife Maricris, Thomas, Jr., Allan, and Dennis and wife Dimple; seven grandchildren, Brittany Tjaden, and Ryan, Emilee, Richard, Christiana, Dustin, and Drake Doherty, and one great-grandchild, Tyson Tjaden.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 PM, with a Rosary at 6:30 followed by a reception, on Monday, October 27 at Pegg, Paxson and Springer Funeral Chapel, 4675 SW Watson Avenue in Beaverton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 29 at 11 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 12250 SW 5th Street in Beaverton, followed by interment at 2 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Tigard.
