Sophia was born in Beaverton, Oregon where she was surrounded by loving family, friends, and neighbors. She attended Kinnaman Elementary School, then Meadow Park Junior High school, before graduating from Beaverton High School with the Class of 2022. She then attended Community Transition Program (CTP) until this year. Throughout her schooling and CTP, she was cared for by a very engaged and caring team of teachers, nurses, and staff.
Sophia is preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Angela Grace, and her two grandfathers, Donald C. Bird and Virgil Fredrick (Fred) Dolen, and her Australian Shepherd, Taz. She is survived by her sister Katie, her parents Marie and Steve, and her loving Yellow Lab, Yoji.
Sophia’s greatest joy was being around spirited people, watching and listening to movies, experiencing nature’s gift of vibrant colors, sights, and sounds, taking part of opportunities in the community, and would be at her most calm or peacefully falling asleep listening to rock and roll, country western, and pop music with a funky beat. Sophia was a lover of fashion as well, whose face would light up when complimented her on her clothes, hair, earrings and shoes.
Sophia’s Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, on July 27, 2024, at Valley Community Presbyterian Church located at 8060 SW Brentwood Street, Portland, Oregon, 97225. Additional parking is available at the TriMet parking lot on Laurelwood Street. Sophia would love to see people in fun colors (think Hello Kitty or flowers) for those attending her service.
In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to contribute on Sophia’s behalf, please consider honoring her by donating to “Imagine Possibilities” at www.imaginepossibilities.net a most unique and absolutely needed organization specializing in the giving and supporting of individuals who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities within our community.
