Born June 4, 1934 in Overton, Texas, to Henry Harvey Whitley and Cornia Inez Ferguson Whitley. After graduation from French High School in 1952, Martha attended Lamar University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration and with Certification to teach 1st-12th grade. After graduation in 1956, she started working at Mobil Oil as a secretary in the personnel department.
On April 5, 1957, Martha married her college sweetheart, Gordon Roy Tucker and moved to Olympia Washington. Gordon was serving in the United States Army and Martha was employed at the State Capital and then later became a 7th grade teacher at Washington Middle School. They returned to Beaumont with their 1st son, 2 months old. Martha was a homemaker for her husband and 3 children until 1967 when they opened Concord Day School and Child Care for 27 years. She served in leadership capacities of teacher organizations and volunteered work for charity.
When Martha was 12 years old, she accepted Jesus as her savior and was baptized at Magnolia Baptist Church. A longtime member of Pine Burr Baptist Church until it sold and then she moved her membership to Calder Baptist Church and supported its ministry until her death.
Martha was preceded in death by her mother, father and husband of fifty years. She is survived by her son, Alan Tucker and his wife, Terry, of Lantana, Texas; her daughter, Cordel Brown and her husband Mike, of Denton, Texas; her daughter, Alice Bienvenu of Argyle, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton, Texas.
The funeral is on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont, Texas. The Burial is at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
Funeral Services will be presided over by Dr. James R. Fuller.
