Kell Richard Jones, age 76, of Beaumont woke up in the arms of his Lord and Savior early in the morning of February 6th.
A life-long resident of the Beaumont area, Kell graduated from Nederland High School in 1965. He soon joined the family business, Jones Boys Structural Movers, a long part of the Gulf Coast Industry. Their motto was "Jones Boys We Move Anything." Kell owned and operated the family business until his retirement in 2000. They moved homes and other structures throughout the region.
Kell was in the Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After serving, he returned home and married Marsha Weide. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this past September. Throughout his struggle with Alzheimer’s, Marsha kept and cared for Kell at home.
He loved all things outdoors. As an avid outdoorsman, he passed his knowledge of hunting and fishing onto his grandsons. Countless hours were spent on his 18 ft. Boston Whaler off the Galveston Jetties.
Kell and Marsha enjoyed spending time at the beach with their family. He was at every birthday and graduation cheering on his grandsons just as they had with their daughters. Kell loved telling stories and sharing tales of his own childhood. Old home movies of him on a new bicycle with training wheels are a family favorite.
After losing their beach house to Hurricane Ike, Kell had the answer. He found another house and relocated to the existing pilings. With the help of his longtime friend and fellow house mover, George McMillian, his son in law, Matt, and his grandsons they were able to recreate the family gathering place.
As a founding member of Christian Fellowship Worship Center he headed up the usher team for many years. He found great joy in greeting church members every Sunday.
Kell is survived by his wife Marsha (Weide) Jones, daughters Amy Jones, and Kasey Connors and husband Matt, all of Beaumont. Grandsons Cole Lindoerfer, of Beaumont, Weston Connors, of Galveston, Stoney and Rocco Connors of Beaumont.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Garland “Casey” Jones and Hazel Inez (Plake) Jones of Beaumont and his sister Carolyn Jones Williams of Sugarland.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 10th, 1:00pm at Christian Fellowship Worship Center with a reception immediately following.
The family wishes to thank Joje Frantz, Jackie Ardoin, Gwynn Walters, Carol Ann Maxwell, and Compassion Hospice for their support and kindness.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to benefit George McMillian’s granddaughter who is need of a service dog. Please visit her link at www.gofundme.com/f/provide-a-service-dog.
