James grew up in Beaumont and graduated from South Park High School in 1958. Serving in the U.S. Army in Germany for several years, he distinguished himself as an expert rifleman. James had a passion for sports, particularly enjoying football and televised sports. He cherished moments spent cooking alongside his wife, Jerry, and fishing with his brothers and Ronnie Sterling, his beloved little cousin. His deep affection extended to his wife Jerry, daughter Dallas, his animals, and all his extended family and friends, including nieces, nephews on both sides of the family.
A seasoned professional in auto sales, James dedicated approximately 50 years to the industry, earning a reputation as the best. For the last three decades, he contributed his skills to R&R Auto Sales on Twin City Highway in Nederland, where his love for cars flourished.
James was preceded in death by his parents Murphy and Mollie Sterling, along with M.F. Sterling, Robert Sterling, Dempsy, Willard, Roland, Gloria, and Betty Sterling.
He is survived by his loving wife Jerry, devoted daughter Dallas and her husband Tim Guidroz, and Joicy Sterling and her children. James leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends, as well as his brothers-in-law Robert and James Lee, Robert Seymore, and Mike Smith, and sisters-in-law Terry, Dixie, and Dovie. He loved them all so.
