Charles Edward “Bubba” Ray , 90, of Beaumont passed away on Thursday November 21, 2013 at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beaumont. Mr. Ray was born on April 17, 1923 in Beaumont, Texas to his parents Samuel and Lillie Belle Moody Ray who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were one brother and one sister. Mr. Ray loved working in the yard with his dogs. He was an outstanding athlete at South Park High School 1938-1941 and in college having graduated from Lamar and Stephen F. Austin University obtaining a Master’s Degree. He ultimately retired as Principal from The South Park Independent School District in 1987 with thirty-one years of dedicated service. During his lifetime he was involved in various organizations which were The Grand Lodge of Texas –Master Mason, South Park No. 1320, Beaumont 126, R.&S.M., El Mina Shriners –Life Member, Knights Templar of Texas Beaumont Commandery No. 38, and American Legion, Post 0033. He was a member of South Park Baptist Church. Charles was a United States Army Veteran in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in the Phillippines with the 240th Combat Battalion. Surviving Mr. Ray are his loving wife Geneva Chesser Ray of Beaumont, two sons Kyle Ray and his wife Leoberta of Grapevine and Karl Ray and his wife Tammy of Salado, Texas, one sister Betty Jane Nobles of Beaumont, five grandchildren, Lauren Ray of Biloxi, Mississippi, Taylor White of Houston, Dustin Ray of McAllen, Leslie Barnhardt of Roanoke, Texas, Patrick Ray of Rowlett, Texas, and one great grandson Knox Ray of Rowlett, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
Funeral services for Mr. Ray will be held on Monday November 25, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Ray’s honor to South Park Baptist Church or to your favorite charity of choice.
