He graduated from Parkersburg High School in West Virginia, and he retired from DuPont after 40 years of service. Walt was a beloved member of Cedar Bayou Lodge No. 321 where he was raised to the degree of a Master Mason in 1983, and in June 1988 he became Master of the Lodge. In 2006 he received the Golden Trowel Award. He was a member of York Rite, Goose Creek Chapter 408, and Goose Creek Council No. 339.
Walt was a member of Second Baptist Church. He enjoyed wood working and spending time with his grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Nolan and Nelda Nolan Merritt; by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tommy and Janet Thompson; by his brothers-in-law, Douglas Thompson, Randy Hessler, and Thomas Surles, and by his nephews, Joey Pauley and Ben Sheppard.
Walt is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Tricia Nolan; by his son, Eric Nolan of Baytown, TX; by his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Bryan Tucker of Humble, TX; by his grandson, Devin Nolan of Crosby, TX; by sisters and brothers-in-law, Hattie Surles of Baytown, TX, Paula and Tom Pauley of Ft. Worth, TX, Barbara and Jim Freeman of Flint, TX, Robin and Mike Sheppard of Baytown, TX; by sister-in-law, Joanie Hessler of West Virginia, also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Navarre Funeral Home Chapel, and interment will follow at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.
