Walter “Butch” Leonard Jenkins, Jr. 77, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on September 1, 2021 in Baytown, Texas. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 26, 1943, to Walter Leonard Jenkins and Simelee Louise Jenkins.
Butch was a Master Mason with Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge No. 321 A.F. & A.M. since 1972. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason of the Houston Scottish Rite Valley since 1973.
“PawPaw” to his family and “Butch” as he was known to his friends and colleagues, was a man who was dedicated to his family. His children and his grandchildren were his pride and joy and he delighted in speaking of their accomplishments. Butch enjoyed talking to old friends, entertaining his family, and watching baseball, football, and the Barrett Jackson Auction Company shows . He had a passion for reading about civil war history and watching NASCAR and he never missed listening to Michael Berry. He was a man of integrity and honor and had a huge heart. He would give you the shirt off of his back. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitors to Jenkins Park in Baytown can thank Butch and his sister Zelphia for the creation of all the trails that are used today for walking, running, nature trips and birdwatching. Butch and Zelphia grew up in Baytown and their family owned the land where Jenkins Park is currently located. As children they created those trails running along the paths with the family pets.
Butch went to work for Gulf Oil (later Chevron) as an Instrument Supervisor and worked there for 34 years until he retired.
He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Leonard Jenkins, his mother, Simelee Louise Jenkins, brother in law, Daniel Hankamer, and great-grandson Carter Schimming.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Jenkins and his daughters, Kimber Reisner and husband Chad, Tracie Cook and husband Chad, D’Ann Schimming, Tamara Ross and husband Craig, and Tanya Fernandez and husband Herman, sons, Thomas McNabb, Timothy McNabb and wife Sarah, grandchildren, Trisha Gilliland and husband Cameron, Haylee Murphy, Alexandria McNabb and fiancé Devin, Brandon Schimming, Josh Schimming and wife Liza, Allison Iles and husband Cory, Benjamin “Reid” Ulrich and fiancé Celine, Cameron Hightower, Dr. Corey Fernandez and husband Dr. Andrei Kamalov, Tori, Jace, Chloe, Abigail and Grace McNabb, great grandchildren Kylee Michelle and Baby Boy Jenkins-Gilliland (due in January 2022), Cooper and Peyton Schimming, Chase Munsell, Parker, Colt, and Noah Iles, Tucker and Tripp Ulrich, and Aubrielle Collins, his sister Zelphia Hankamer, nieces, Tanya Lowrance and husband Reid, and Tonya Troxell, extended family Rebecca Jenkins and Mark Schimming, Cher McBrayer, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
