Marceil Jane Wright, 89, of Baytown passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at her residence. She was born September 13, 1918 in Garrison Texas, the second of three children born to Thomas P and Bennie Marie Drewry. When she was a young child the family moved to Baytown Texas.
Marceil graduated from Robert E Lee High School and became a ""career girl"", working in downtown Houston, Suniland Furniture and the Houston Lighting and Power Company in Baytown. She was a Rainbow Girl and as an adult was active for many years in Eastern Star.
In 1939 she and her younger sister, accompanied by a family friend had the good fortune to cruise from Galveston to Miami and then on to Havana Cuba where they vacationed for several days. She later met Royce Eugene (Gene) Wright and in July of 1942 they married in Baytown, where they lived until they moved to Greens Bayou for a short time. After that, they moved back to Baytown and remained there. Marceil and Gene were original residents of Brownwood and left there in 1961 after Hurricane Carla.
In 1959 they bought the first of 2 boats to be named for Marceil (the 'Jan Mar'). Marceil was a great first mate and in about 5 years they decided on a larger boat. They enjoyed the second 'Jan Mar' for several years and then became landlubbers again. In 1975 they set off with their travel trailer to see the great sights in the United States. They always maintained a base in Baytown during this time and in 1979 Marceil remained in Baytown after Gene's death.
Since 1979 Marceil has traveled extensively with several Senior Citizens' groups. She attended plays, the Houston Rodeo, visited historical sites and enjoyed seeing many places in Canada and still more of the United States. Her friendly and genuine personality gained her many new friends to add to the lifelong ones she had. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Crystal Waldrop, Laverne Jackson and Devi Persad.
Marceil is survived by a niece, Patricia Barnette and husband Paul Barnette as well as her dear friend of over 50 years, Polly Waldrop and close friend Bonita Elliott, who was also a very devoted and loving caregiver, and very special neighbors/friends Stefnay and Kevin Helm.
