Laura Jane Thomas

Laura was born to Mayo Jack and Virginia Frank, May 11, 1936, in Villle Platte, Louisiana. She graduated from Ville Platte Negro High School in 1954. She married Eugene Davis Thomas in 1954, and they lived together in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Together they raised 4 children.

She is survived by sons Kenneth Thomas, Egan “Chub” Thomas (Barbara), and two daughters, Nadine Connie Guide and Henrietta “Sue” George (Earl George). She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Elfa Mae “Faye” Williams and Geri Carroll, one brother, Mayo Jack, Jr., one aunt, Elsie Mae Fontenot, Special Niece Vicky (Eddie) Hynson, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Mayo Jack (father), Virginia Frank (mother), Irene Freeman (grandmother), Ogina Halison, (sister) Lawrence Edwards, Larry Jack, and Lionel Jack (three brothers) and Patrick Guide (son-in-law), Santana Hunter, (grandson).

Laura worked as a warehouse supervisor & administrative assistant at Aha, as an assistant to Dr. Ruby Payne, and as Custodian Supervisor for Goose Creek Independent School District over twenty-four years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She was also actively involved in her church, Unity Missionary Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher and member of the senior mission, choir, & women’s ministry.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life starting at 11:00 am, June 1, 2023 at Unity Baptist Church, 2625 Broad Street, Baytown, TX 77521 with a graveside service following at Earthman Memory Gardens 8624 Garth Rd. Baytown, TX 77521 at 1:30 pm.

A repass will be held at Unity Baptist Church after the graveside service. Dr. Jermarion N. Williams and Minister Connie Guide will officiate the ceremony. The family would also like to thank Tee Bowman & Dr. Ruby Payne, for years of love and support.
