And, she is survived by her loving dog, Kelsey. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, E. C. “Jack” Kimmons and Ethel Thompson Kimmons.
Joyce graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1962 and attended Texas Technological College where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1966. After graduation Joyce and Bill married in 1966 and she began her adventures as an Air Force wife. During Bill’s various assignments in their early marriage, Joyce began her career as a speech therapist. Since speech therapy was a relatively new field, Joyce helped to develop speech programs in the public schools where she taught. Following her heart’s desire to study design, Joyce attended San Jacinto College and received her diploma and title of Associate of Arts in 1982 and Certificate of Technology in Interior Design also in 1982. She began her second career in Interior Design and was a proud member of the American Society of Interior Designers. Joyce was an extremely talented and innovative person who loved to work with many artistic mediums. Her passion for art led her to discover the Asheville region of North Carolina where she and Bill built a mountain-top home and studio and lived every spring, summer and fall. She was able to fulfill her artistic dreams and was an active participant in the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
Joyce was a loving, gracious hostess who put her guests at ease. She never missed an opportunity to dance, laugh or give a hug and was always the first to suggest a new adventure. She loved playing tennis, spending time with friends in both Texas and North Carolina, and her annual reunions with her Garner State Park family. Life to Joyce was a big fun adventure. She brightened the lives of so many and will be missed.
