He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman and Barney; daughter, Natalie Blackburn; and granddaughter, Sherry Blackburn.
He is survived by his wife, Maymo Lewis; son, Jay Roger Lewis; granddaughter, Tammy Blackburn and her husband Rocco Richard; grandsons, Chris, Chase, and Jay Lewis, Jr.; great grandchildren, Belvin and Colin Richard; son-in-law, Malcolm Blackburn.
James was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.S. in Geology. He also earned a masters and doctorate from the University of Houston. He served twenty years on the Board of Directors of Houston Area Teachers Credit Union, including five years as chairman. He also served on the Board of Directors at Baycoast Hospital and as Director of Boy Scouts – East Harris County. James was active at Trinity Episcopal Church having served on the Vestry and as Treasurer for 3 years. After retiring from GCCISD as Director of Secondary Schools, he served for 7 years on the Board of Trustees of GCCISD.
James and Maymo were married for 69 years and enjoyed traveling for many years having gone through 2 trailers and 3 motorhomes. They also enjoyed flying the 2 Cessna’s they had for several years.
