Harold "Buddy" Dwain Hughes

He was born on January 4, 1950 to L.H. “Buck” and Bettie Jo Caruthers Hughes in Bridgeport, Texas. Buddy’s parents and siblings moved to Eunice, New Mexico in 1953. When Buddy was 14, the family moved to Baytown, Texas.

Buddy married Sherry Lynn Vowell on December 5, 1969. They had two children Dwain Keith and Christopher Michael Hughes. Buddy and Sherry enjoyed fifty one years in marriage.

Buddy worked as an I&E Technician for 48 years. He retired from Enterprise in 2015.

Buddy was never still, he was always making saw dust! His passion was wood work, from building his houses to making their porch swings. The man loved saw dust! He also had a hobby in stained glass. He was so proud to show his family and friends his accomplishments. Buddy enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his brothers, his two boys and with his entire family. More than anything, after he retired he loved to vacation in their new camper with his wife Sherry, whom he adored.

Buddy is survived by his wife Sherry Lynn Hughes, son Dwain Keith, son Christopher Michael and wife Jamie. Grandchildren Haylee and husband Derek Legg, Richard and wife Mariah Schelsteder, and 4 great grandchildren, Coy Hux, Evy and Ryder. Brothers Gary and wife Georgie Hughes, and Max and wife Marie Hughes; mother-in-law Bonnie Vowell, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Bettie Hughes, brother Philip Hughes, father-in-law Clifford (Lefty) Vowell, sister-in-law Kristi Lamkin, and his main squeeze, Dolly.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:00 am at Wallisville Cemetery on Wallisville-Turtle Bayou Rd., Wallisville, Tx 77497.

The Pallbearers are Kirt Blount, Clifford Vowell, Mike Shepherd, Jack Courson, Clint Moss, and Chuck Calhoun. The Honorary Pallbearers include Gary Hughes, Max Hughes, Keith Hughes, and Chris Hughes.
