Gloria Alice Brown Bridges passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Francis Rue Brown and HarrieDell Anna Ueckert Brown, and spent the first 92 years of her life in Baytown, Texas, mostly along the shore of Scott Bay where her great-grandparents homesteaded in the 1800s. Her early education began at Wooster School on land donated by her grandfather. She was a proud member of the ‘39ers, 1939 graduates of Robert E. Lee High School. Gloria was a longtime assistant to Kelly Morris, MD, and after retirement enjoyed volunteering at St. James House, participating in Christian Women’s Fellowship at First Christian Church, and attending Exxon annuitants’ functions.
Gloria married her high school sweetheart, Henry Horton Bridges, and was happily married for 73 years. After his passing in 2013, she moved to Colorado to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Phil Winslow. She lived in her own home, taking pleasure in crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy game shows, her yard full of flowers, Sundays at Pauline Chapel at The Broadmoor, her many cats, and iPad communications with her grandsons and their spouses – Jason and RaNee Steed of Austin, Texas; Bryan and Gena Steed of The Woodlands, Texas; and Philip and Anya Winslow of Denver, Colorado – anticipating stories about her eight great-grandchildren – Kelsey , Tyler and Katherine Steed; Madison, Molly, and Jake Steed; and Zaria and Athena Winslow.
Gloria is predeceased by her parents and younger sister, Eleanor Hasty.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Sterling-White Cemetery, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd., in Highlands Texas 77562.
