George Francis Bird, 82, of Baytown, TX went to be with his Lord on December 28, 2004. He was born May 20, 1922 in Parkersburg, WV and moved to Baytown at the age of 14. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran. Upon his return from the Army, he worked for Humble-Exxon for over 30 years. He retired to his farm in Centerville, where he was an avid cattleman and farmer. He returned to Baytown to live after 25 years on his farm. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Baytown and was a beloved husband, father,
brother, and “Paw Paw”.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Alberta “Dimples” Bird, his son, George “Gene” Bird, and his brother, Clarence Bird. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Stella and Jimmy Radle of Mont Belvieu; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Peggy Bird of Stafford; grandchildren, Matt and Carol West of Mont Belvieu, Steven and Tammy Radle of Baytown, and Dana Schweers of Houston; great grandchildren, Alexandra and Carson West and Erin Radle; numerous nieces and nephews, including Barbara and Josh Higginbotham; and friend, Murell Dean Boyett.
Serving as pallbearers will be William Barrow, Trey Franks, Ronnie Petty, Sonny Smith, Wendell Hansard, and Justin Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be Elton Hill, I. E. Hill, Johnnie Smith, Herschel Smith, Ray Rushing, and his good friends from Centerville.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, December 31, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Dr. David Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
The family would like to say a special “thank you” to Dr, Pamela Medellin, Pat, Margie, and all of the nurses at O.P.T.U. Your kindness and caring not only helped our loved one, but our family as well. Thank you for everything.
