Elizabeth "Elaine" Murff of Crosby, TX passed from this life at the age of 90 on December 22, 2022. A visitation will be held from 12pm-1pm on January 3, 2023 and a celebration of life will follow at 1pm at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. Honored to serve as pallbearers: Dustin Martin, Jordan Martin, Noah Murff, Jack Murff, Cooper Murff, and Steve Martin.
Elaine was born on November 5,1932 in Abbott, TX to Ernest W. Young and Maude Della Young. Her family eventually moved to Baytown, TX where she graduated from Robert E Lee High School in 1951. She met Bill Murff in 1963 and they were married 3 months later. They raised three kids in Crosby, Tx where they all still work on the family farm, Murff Turf Farms.
Elaine was a faithful member of the church of Christ. Her greatest joy was serving God and others. She was an amazing cook and always had enough food for a crowd. Bill would often invite several families from church over for lunch, and it never seemed to faze Elaine. Her most famous dish was her homemade cinnamon rolls. People would often request them and she gladly made them for anyone that asked. She cooked lunch for her kids and grandkids, and anyone else Bill invited over, Monday through Friday for a decade. After lunch was over, she would fix plates of food to take to the shut-ins from church. If you didn’t find Elaine in the kitchen, she was most likely sitting at the table reading her Bible. Even in her later years, she read the scriptures diligently and attended worship services regularly. Besides always cooking for an army, her and Bill would often open their home to friends passing through town, and sometimes strangers that quickly became like family. The Murff home was always full of family, friends, and lots of grandkids running around. She will be remembered for her hospitality, her love for her family, and her love for God.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bill Murff. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Steve Martin of Crosby, son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jenny Murff of Crosby, and son and daughter-in-law, Lindy and Amanda Murff of Crosby; seven grandchildren, Dustin Martin and wife Rachelle Martin, Jordan Martin, Abbey Murff, Jack Murff, Noah Murff, Emma Murff, and Cooper Murff all of Crosby.
Elaine and her sisters had a special bond. They would visit regularly, send cards of encouragement to each other, and get together for a meal as often as possible. She is survived by Frances Smith of Montgomery, TX, Jeanette Page of Baytown, Betty Herring and husband Tommie of Baytown, TX, Anita McDonald of Keller, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Elaine’s nieces Kathy Walker and Karla Page for spending time and always being there for her.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at The Lodge at Pine Creek and Reliant Hospice for caring for Elaine the last year and a half.
