Yvonne "Evie" Van Deutekom

Yvonne, better known as Evie, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, August 20th , at the age of 80. She was a native of Aruba where she met and married her husband Hank, to whom she was married for 61 years. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1955 and became proud naturalized citizens in 1976. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hendrik and Johanna Hagendoorn and brothers, Clement and John Hagendoorn. She is survived by her husband Hank van Deutekom; son Mike van Deutekom and wife Rebecca of Florida; daughter Cindy Kidwell and her husband Jim of Colorado; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Evie was a long-time member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she taught Kindergarten, four-year old Sunday school, was a Sr. High United Methodist Youth Group Leader, and volunteered for Southeast Ministries and many others. She was also a Boy Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader and a member of PEO Chapter C. Evie retired after 22 years as the Secretary of Broadmoor Elementary School. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29 from 9:00am to 11:00am, followed by the service at Broadmoor United Methodist Church; interment to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Hospice of Baton Rouge or Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
