Wilson “Pop” Baker was born in Greenwood, MS, to the late Wilson and Martha Wright Baker. He was one of two children. His older brother Samuel “Sam” Baker preceded him in death. He taught high school French and English for a year before being drafted into the military and served the U.S. Army from 1969-1972 earning the Purple Heart in Vietnam. He retired from Delta Airlines. Pop was hard working, loving, kind, generous, smart, fun and funny. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn C. Baker, MD of Baton Rouge; son, Vincent Clear (Delia) of Manteca, CA; aunt, Naomi Wright Churchill (Robert) of Chicago, IL; uncles, Nehemiah Wright (Leota) of Greenwood, MS, and Benjamin Wright of Ft. Washington, Maryland; sister-in-law, Renita Miller (Ronald) of Memphis, TN; nephew, Ronald Miller II (Cynthia) of Memphis, TN; niece, Robyn of Memphis, TN; and grandnephew, Ronald Miller III, affectionately known as “Trey”. Services will be held Saturday October 1, at 11 am at St. Luke Church of God in Christ in Greenwood, MS. Transferring to Century Funeral Home, 801 Walthall St. Greenwood, MS 38930.
