Retired Associate State Librarian and a resident of Baton Rouge, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at her residence at Williamsburg Retirement Community. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, she spent her entire career in service to Louisiana libraries. She was instrumental in the establishment of a statewide system which made libraries and books available to residents of rural areas throughout Louisiana. Visitation on Tuesday at St. Joseph Cathedral from 8:00 a.m. until celebration of the Mass at 10:00 a.m. conducted by Reverend Frank Uter, and concelebrated by Reverend Paul Counce, and her brother, Reverend Clair Cazayoux. She received her B.S. degree from Louisiana State University and M.S. degree in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin. Preceded in death by parents James Numa Cazayoux and Inez Decuir Cazayoux, sister Olivia C. O'Connor, and brothers James N. Cazayoux Jr., and Brother Cosmas Cazayoux, S.C. Survived by sister Adelaide C. Bondy and three brothers Rev. Clair M. Cazayoux, S.J., Dr. Francis T. Cazayoux, and Dr. Robert V. Cazayoux. Vivi , as she was lovingly known by her family, is also survived by twenty-five nieces and nephews. In 1971 she received the Essae M. Culver Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Library Association. In 2005 she received the Bishop's Day Apprentice Award presented to her by Bishop Robert Muench. This award was in recognition of her efforts to record and preserve the history of the historic St. Joseph Cathedral. She was past president of the Louisiana State Library Assn. She was also a member of St. Joseph Parish and numerous cultural and civic organizations. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Beverly Egerton, Carolyn Hybart, Dora Forbes, Gladys Smith and Rita Frost for the kind and loving care they provided to Vivi during the last two years of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Society of Jesus, 4511 W. Pine Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108, or the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation.
