Troye Anthony Svendson

"Troye Anthony Svendson passed away on March 10, 2018, at age 92 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Troye was born on October 25, 1925, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Lee Kurdoff Svendson and Marie Antoinette Troye Svendson, both of New Orleans. After graduating from Warren Easton High School in 1942, Troye joined the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) and began his undergraduate studies at Tulane University. During his years at Tulane, he was very involved in campus activities as well as college athletics. Troye represented the Green Wave in both basketball and track. He served as president of his fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi, and was a member of two leadership-based organizations, Kappa Delta Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa. In addition to serving as a student commander in the NROTC, Troye was elected president of the Panhellenic Council and president of the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1945, Troye graduated from Tulane and was commissioned second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Forces Reserve (USMCR). He reported to Quantico, Virginia, and completed training in the Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) program. When his service in the Marine Corps ended in 1946, Troye returned to New Orleans to attend law school at Tulane, where he played basketball on an athletic scholarship. Shortly after graduating law school in 1949, Troye was recruited by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After a year working as an FBI agent, Troye decided it was time to move back to Louisiana "“ this time to Baton Rouge. In 1951 he began working for Ethyl Corporation, and in that same year met the love of his life, Olga. The two were married on July 7, 1953, in Baton Rouge. After four years at Ethyl, Troye operated his own law office for a brief period. He then went to work for City National Bank, serving as vice president and trust officer. Troye was instrumental in the development of Delmont Village Shopping Center, working alongside his brother Douglass and eventually taking over management after his brother's death. Troye retired in 1986 to devote time to family business. In addition to his career accomplishments, Troye was a dedicated member of the community. He was an active member of Baton Rouge Country Club, serving as president in 1966, and the City Club of Baton Rouge, serving as president in 1972. He was chairman of the East Baton Rouge Parish Welfare Board and worked closely with Dr. Jack Rathbone on the conceptual planning of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. Troye served as chairman of the first capital campaign to establish and fund the cancer center and served on its board of directors for 23 years. Troye is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved aunt Josephine (Wede) Troye and four brothers, Robert E. Svendson (Nina), Douglass W. Svendson (Jeanne), Lee K. Svendson Jr. (Irene), and Vernon E. Svendson; his nephew Lee Svendson and his niece Jeanette Svendson. Troye is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Olga Nelson Svendson; his four wonderful children, Troye Scott Svendson, Laurie Svendson Faulkner (Marty), Chandler Nelson Svendson (Kathryn Lee), and Susan Svendson Curington (Randell); his two loving grandchildren, Kiley Nelson Faulkner and Chandler Tate Curington; his nieces and nephews, Douglass W. Svendson Jr. (Dot), Alice S. Waldman (Jerry), Marie S. Pribble (Don), Justine S. Siener (Bobby), Kris S. Chadwick (Bill), Jeffery M. Svendson (Lue), Toni S. DeBossier (Mark), W. Martin Svendson (Moo), Lawrence F. Svendson (Katy), R. Eric Svendson (Madeline) and their families; his brother-in-law John Prewitt Nelson Jr. and nephew Douglas Prewitt Nelson (Frances). Many thanks go to his faithful employee of more than 50 years, Louis Stewart Jr. (Dorothy). The family would like to thank the angels from the Hospice of Baton Rouge, Suzie, Christy, Karen, Paulette, Crystal and Jamie; and the compassionate sitters, Martha, Celeste and Lora. And most of all, the children are grateful to their amazing mother who took such wonderful care of their father, enabling him to pass away peacefully in his beloved home. The visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, on Saturday, March 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following in the chapel, with Fr.
