Rosemary Smith

Rosemary Smith passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 at the age of 101 at the Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, LA. Rosemary loved God and she loved people. Her last months included frequent visits from family and friends. During these visits she shared how her deep faith kept her spirits high and her thoughts positive

She was preceded in death by two husbands; Desire Paul Blanchard and Edwin A. Smith. She loved them both dearly. Her parents, Jane and Philibert Philippe and her sisters, Edna Thibadeaux, Eve Hidalgo, Ann Blanchard, Odette O’Rillion and Ida Jeffers also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her two daughters Cathy Woosley and Sheree Carter; grandchildren: Nikol Markert, Shanna Barberio, Tiffany Wale, Christopher Woosley and Tanya Dew. She loved the grandchildren and then the great grandchildren: Madeline and Grayson Markert, Grant and Carter Barberio; Alanya, Ethan and Judah Wale; and Abigail, Caleb and Judah Dew. And many beloved nieces and nephews.

She moved to Baton Rouge after high school, attended secretarial school and then began a career with various State Departments. She retired in the 1980’s from the State Department of Education. She then used her energies to serve God in volunteer ministries for 40+ years. These included various ministries and projects at her home parish of St. Thomas More Church. She especially enjoyed being a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered at The Care Center, The Medical Center (now Ochsner’s) and Capital Nursing Home. She also used her calligraphy skills, cooking and sewing skills to bless many people through the years. She loved giving.

Visitation will be Friday, August 25th from 10 am to 11:30 am at Greenoaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA.

St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge LA will host her 12 noon funeral mass. Internment and reception will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home immediately following the noon mass.

Pallbearers will be Neil Barberio, Brent Wale, Will Dew, Chris DeRouen, Mike Markert and Christopher Woosley.
