Robert E. "Vic" Vicknair, a resident of Baton Rouge, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was 77 and a native of Plaquemine. He was a graduate of Plaquemine High School and LSU and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1956. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Resources, where he was director of fiscal services. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Plaquemine High School Boxing Committee, Coastal Conservation Association and past president and member of the board of directors of the International Association of State and Federal Health and Human Resources Fiscal Officers. Vic was an avid outdoorsman and hunted and fished throughout the U.S. and Mexico. He had a special interest in stamp collecting and antique cars, especially a 1957 Chevrolet that he restored and his wife affectionately called "the other woman." Survived by his wife of 39 years, Sylvana St. Romain Vicknair; sister, Sheila Mondrosch, Baton Rouge; aunt, Sadie Lemay, of Denham Springs; brother-in-law, Emile St. Romain and wife Cecilia; and sister-in-law, Alicia Roussel St. Romain, Baton Rouge. Among his surviving nephews and nieces are Michael St. Romain, wife Donna, and their children, Amy St. Romain Daughdrill and Ace Michael St. Romain, of Bueche; Louis St. Romain, wife Stacy, and their children, Cory and Cassidy, of Mandeville; William "Billy" St. Romain, wife Karen, and their children, Stephen and Matthew, of Utica, Mich.; Emile St. Romain III, of Baton Rouge; Bambi St. Romain, of Washington, D.C., and Brenda Eisenman, of Oklahoma City. The family expresses special thanks to his driver and attendant, Sammy Day, for his loyalty and care. They also thank the staff of The Carpenter House for their care and concern. Preceded in death by his father, Daniel B. Vicknair; mother, Lena Lemay Vicknair Mondrosch; stepfather, John M. Mondrosch; and nephew, Randal Lindig. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home chapel, 9595 Florida Blvd., Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Vic Messina. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Millard Bourgeois, Mark Devillier, Jerry Lemay, Richard Roussel, Louis St. Romain and Michael St. Romain. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Brown, Sammy Day and Woody Mansur.
