Robert “Bob” Vignes Mahoney was born May 2, 1939 in Bishop, California. He started school in Grand Junction, Colorado, then attended schools in Nevada, California and Connecticut. He earned a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and later a Master's Degree from the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut. He went to work for the Federal Government in the Department of Transportation working in Washington, D.C., Sudan, Texas, and since 1969 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For the last 15 years, Bob worked in the area of environmental coordination. After more than 60 years of dedication and service, Bob retired in May of 2022.Through the years, Bob was active with Tai Chi, church, various dancing and social events, and he enjoyed cruises, beach vacations, and keeping his mind active with Sudoku. After a brief battle with a severe illness, Bob departed from this world and went home to be with the LORD on September 21, 2023. Bob is survived by his son, Byran Mahoney (wife, Mindy, and their two children, Kaisen and Emoree), grandson, Willie Noland (wife Brook), sister, Patricia Haley, niece, Lia M. Haley, nephew, Conall Haley (wife Maureen) and the love of his last 12 years, Lynn Golda. Bob’s peaceful nature and calm demeanor, as well as his heartwarming smile, will be missed by many. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (East) at 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
