Robert Dickerson, 81, of Baton Rouge passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. A Navy veteran, Bobby spent the last two decades of his professional career with the Baton Rouge City Police Department rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He served the force in numerous capacities – Uniformed Patrol, Detective, in the Polygraph unit and Internal Affairs but ultimately retired as Health and Safety officer – a department of the force which he helped create.
Bobby was married to his life-long love Wendy at the ripe age of 16, and spent the next 65 years enjoying life with her and the rest of his family.
He was active in his church and along with Wendy served as youth counselor at University United Methodist, accompanying its youth group on numerous trips and choir tours and supporting their performances. He enjoyed serving as coach for his daughter Kathy’s softball team. An avid golfer, he achieved a bucket list moment making the trek to Scotland to play the famous Old Course at St. Andrews, among others.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Dickerson Sr, and mother Elvina Fogg Dickerson. Bobby is survived by his loving wife Wendy nee Perkins, his sister Barbara Stewart and brother-in-law Mike, daughter and son-in-law Kathy and John Grenfell, and their sons Grant, Brady and Ty Grenfell, son David and his wife JoAnn and their children Jonathan and Evan Dickerson (and his wife Alexis Yumul) and finally a new great-grandson Beau Dickerson. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those who knew him.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday Jan 21 at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, La, with visitation at 12:00 pm prior to the service.
