Rivers Eugene “Gene” Hargroder passed away on Saturday, September 3rd, at the age of 90. He was born in Churchpoint, LA, and was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He graduated from Baton Rouge High and LSU after interrupting his degree to enlist in the Marines. He was stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, then returned to Baton Rouge to finish his education. Gene excelled at football and played quarterback in high school; he was an excellent swimmer and taught swimming at LSU; in later years he became an avid golfer and tennis player. Following a successful career in sales, Gene delved into acting and performed in plays and workshops at Baton Rouge Little Theater. He appeared in several commercials and films produced in Louisiana. He enjoyed good detective stories, drawing, and cooking; he was a forever LSU Tiger fan, and Dandy Don devotee. An avid duck hunter and fishing enthusiast, he loved memories of the camp near Pecan Island. He is survived by his wife, Alyne Logan Hargroder, and her three children: Laurie Huard (Tom), Susan Jensen (David), and Alan Strickland; grandchildren Tommy Huard, Amanda Bruce Parker (Mike), Daniel Bruce, Lara Brooke Babin, and Ingrid Jensen; great-grandchildren Lillie Parker, Rhys Parker, River Babin and Cora Babin. Preceded in death by his father, Rivers Hargroder; mother, Ida Lee Allbritton Boyd; brother, Charles M. Hargroder; and daughter, Erin Hargroder Brumfield. Interred at the Louisiana National Cemetery.
