Raymond J. Rome, Sr. a native and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Tuesday September 27, 2016, at his residence at the age of 83. Raymond worked as a printer at The Advocate for 36 years. He was a member of various organizations such as the LA Association of the Deaf, the Catholic International Deaf Association and the National Fraternal Association of the Deaf. Raymond was also very active in his church ministry. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. “He not only took care of his family, whom he loved, but he also served as a leader at The Catholic Deaf Center. He was the backbone of the operations. He will be missed by those he served.” He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty Rome; a daughter, Patricia Riley; his parents Edgar and Angelina Rome; 4 brothers, Joseph, Jack, Oscar and Anthony Rome; 3 sisters, Althea Brossett, Antoinette Nagle and Nona Wilkinson. He is survived by daughters, Barbara Rome Miller and husband, Michael Miller, Sr. and Teresa Rome Garrett and husband Mark Garrett; sons, Raymond J. Rome, Jr. and wife Anne Rome and Joseph P. Rome and wife Judy Rome; grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller, Michael Miller, Jr., Rachael Miller, Jenna Rome McLin and husband, Dustin McLin, Kelsey Rome, Justin Rome, Taylor Garrett, Emily Garrett, and Evan Garrett; great grandchildren, Jackson Lee McLin and Ethan Hughes McLin; 2 brothers Donald Rome and Ronald Rome, Sr. The family would like extend appreciation to Amedisys Hospice Care and nurses, Angela, Jennifer, Melissa and Tangela. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday September 30, 2016, from 6 pm - 8 pm with the Rosary recited at 7:30 pm. Visitation will resume at 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am on Saturday October 1, 2016, at Our Lady of Mercy, 445 Marquette Ave. Baton Rouge, La. 70806. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Raymond J. Rome, Jr., Joseph P. Rome, Michael Miller, Sr., Michael Miller, Jr., Justin Rome and Evan Garrett.
