A resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Prentiss was born in New Orleans on April 23, 1949. He had a fulfilling childhood as one of five siblings living in various locations due to his father’s military career. After high school, Prentiss attended Louisiana State University where he earned his degree in 1971. After graduating LSU, he began his career at the Louisiana Department of Labor, working as an Administrative Law Judge. With great pride, Prentiss retired as the Administrative Law Judge Director after 40 years of service. His career brought value to his life in many ways, bringing him lifelong friendships and the love of his life, his wife, Mrs. Paula Stevens.
Prentiss and Paula married on April 16, 1977. He spent more than 47 years of marriage showing Paula unconditional love and commitment. Together they raised four children. Prentiss was the very meaning of a father, loving, supportive, stern, forgiving, humorous, and proud. His wife and children filled his life with love and in return, he was fully devoted to them. He was further blessed to experience the joys of being Paw Paw to his four grandchildren who absolutely adored him as he did them. He was truly everyone's biggest fan, always front row to cheer them on, offering a little coaching and lots of encouragement.
His laughter filled the room during the good times and his big voice of reason was ready during the trying times. Prentiss provided all those he loved with an endless sense of security through his unwavering integrity as the head of his family. We will deeply feel his absence and yearn for his presence.
Prentiss had a passion for all things LSU sports. As a superfan he attended countless football, baseball, and basketball games with his best friend and brother-in-law, Sammy Territo. When illness no longer allowed for his attendance, the two continued their traditions by watching at home or at the very least, with a weekly phone call to discuss all the latest LSU sports happenings.
Through endless hours of genealogy research, Prentiss was able to discover information regarding generations of his ancestors. He loved looking back as far as possible to document the existence and lives of his family. He was proud to share documents, pictures, and articles with anyone that would show interest. His research and findings are a lasting treasure.
Prentiss is survived by his loving wife, Paula Stevens, and his children; Ronn Self Jr., Jennifer Stevens Payne (Beck), Benjamin Stevens (Sarah), and Jared Stevens, and his grandchildren, Colton Martinez, Marilyn Stevens, Olivia Stevens, and Benjamin “Carter” Stevens. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandee Stevens Meaney (Bill) and Lisa Stevens, his brother-in-law, Chris Rust, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prentiss is preceded in death by his parents Prentiss and Gloria Stevens, his brother Joseph Stevens, and his sister Geana Stevens Rust.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of and mourn the loss of Prentiss Stevens Jr. on December 13, 2024 at Green Oaks Funeral Home with visitation at Noon followed by a service at 2 pm.
Mrs. Paula Stevens would like to extend sincere gratitude on behalf of the family to Sandra and Sammy Territo for their love and support during this difficult time.
