"Our beautiful beloved Mother, a resident of Baton Rouge for 70 years, left for her eternal home on Monday, October 17, 2016. She was born in Shongaloo, LA on September 23, 1920 and taught public school in Webster, Claiborne, and East Baton Rouge Parishes for 45 years. She received her Bachelor's degree with honors from Louisiana Tech and Masters in education from L.S.U. A founding member of the University Baptist Church, she excelled in academic and athletic endeavors but was most content in her role as a teacher and homemaker. She will be remembered as a caring teacher, a kind and humble lady, and a loving and forgiving friend and Mother. Special appreciation is given to the caregivers of Sunrise at Seigen from the family. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Rea Mathews (Bill); sons, Dr. A. D. (Del) Walker, Jr. (Maureen), Steven L. Walker and Gary J. Walker (Kathi); sisters-in-law, Betty Frye and Lavinia Walker; grandchildren, Rebecca Acosta(Marc), Elizabeth Balmer (Johnathan), Anna Schmaltz (Jason), Rachel Norris (Thomas),Dr. Gary Walker Jr., Clayton Walker, and Matthew Walker; great grandchildren, Marc, Jr., Elizabeth, Johnny, Naomi, and Blake; many loved nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend, Lynn White. She was preceded In death by husband, A. D. Walker Sr.; parents, Jennings Bryan Frye Sr. and Fannie Mae Coyle Frye; brothers, Dr. J.B. Frye Jr .and Dr. Robert L. Frye; sisters-in-law, Agnes Frye and Maxine Moore; brothers-in-law, Truman Walker and James B. Moore; and nephew, J. Bryan Frye III. Pallbearers will be Dr. Barton Frye, Dr. Lloyd Frye, Randy Frye, Kevin Frye, Edward Walker, Howard Walker, and Matthew Walker. Honorary Pallbearers are George Walker, Jimmy Moore, Clayton Walker, Dr. Gary Walker, Thomas Norris, Jason Schmaltz, Marc Acosta, and Johnathan Balmer. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from noon until religious services at 2 pm conducted by the Rev. Dr. George Haile. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to University Baptist Church, Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre or a charity of your choice.
